Morning meditation, immediately after you wake up from sleep, has brilliant effects as you are well- rested after a sleep cycle and your brain can easily enter into a deep state of awareness. Just like brushing teeth every morning as you start your day, brushing your mind is also important. It charges you positively for the rest of the day.
As a beginner, one can start with 30 mins of meditation, and gradually increase it to an hour. With further practice, it is recommended to practice 2 hours of meditation daily, which will bring brilliant results in your life. There is no limit to the number of hours you need to meditate. Meditation for long continuous hours eventually helps in breaking through karmic baggage.
It is not mandatory to sit cross-legged. What is most important is to sit upright with spine straight, but not feeling rigid and stiff. It is important you sit comfortably on a chair or mat so that you can go deep enough.
Meditation can easily fit into your lifestyle as a healthy habit. There are no significant changes you need to make to practice meditation. However, healthy food, exercise, good sleep pattern and mindfulness will definitely enhance the benefits of practicing meditation.
